I swear exercise is the best treatment for anxiety.

As I stated in my journal last night, I've been ridiculously stressed out recently due to a number of factors. Among the lovely list of problems I've experienced in my life is a pretty bad anxiety disorder that goes haywire when I'm under too much stress (not a precise term but a good description of it.) I'm one of those tightly wound people in my natural state so weeks of stress kind of push me to pretty bad places.

It varies from day to day obviously, but when I wake up with a knot in my stomach in the morning and the feeling that I'm getting an ulcer, I know it's not going to be a good anxiety day. That was how I woke up this morning.

Thankfully the rain forecast for today stopped early and I ended up being able to go walk/jog when I got out of work. Apparently I'm a LOT faster when I'm stressed. I seriously shaved 3 minutes off my time on the SAME 3.1 mile track I was doing last week. I'm sure part of it is probably fitness but a lot of it is just sheer nervous energy because I was hauling ass. I would've probably been faster if I could've jogged more but my shin is bothering me again. (I probably have some kind of really weird posture/gait.)

As always happens when I workout outside I had something pop into my head that summed up everything. It was: I am strong, I am powerful, I can do this.

I really don't know how I'm going to do all this but I guess I just need to know that I can? I know I'll find a way through all this somehow, even if the reason or way isn't clear yet. I'm okay with that.

Anyway, I'm going to shower and then head to Trader Joe's since I have like no food in the house. (I'm sitting here ridiculously sweaty lol.)

Affirmations for today:

1) I am strong. I am powerful. I can do this.

2) I don't need to know how everything is going to work out right now, just that I'm going to get through it

3) It's not the load that breaks you, it's the way you carry it.

You know, Amy, in an odd way I really have to thank our inept government for this health kick of mine. I started working out because I was a giant ball of stress about the unemployment extension and the lousy economy. It calmed me down so I kept with it and it's all kind of snowballed from there.

Maybe you should get your running shoes checked, or invest in some good ones that really support you well?
