Sometimes life throws you a curve ball, then another and another. You have to field them as best you can. My curve balls started in 2010 when I did so much damage to my ankle resulting in an operation a year. I thought the last one would be at the end of last year when I had the total ankle replacement operation.

But no, the Bowler wasn't finished with me. Out of nowhere acute appendicitis resulting in it bursting before I got to the operating table.

This is not good timing. I'm self employed in the tourism industry and coming into the start of the season. I'm working out how to field this latest development given my instructions from the medical profession. After two major operations in quick succession, one involving a massive infection, if I didn't take a proper recovery period, I risk something else popping up and biting me on the bum.

Now where did I leave my thinking cap?

@Glennith, Glad to hear from you, sorry to hear about your appendicitis. I really hope that the cause is not related to your diet. Conventional mainstream advice would seem to say avoid high fat foods after appendix surgery. Please at least discuss with your doctor your dietary choices. All the best, Giles.

I hope all works out for you soon Glennith. It can be a long and lonely road you tread when it is just one thing after another. My thoughts are with you and without giving any detail, I assure you I know and understand how you feel and how it can get to you. May your recovery be swift and complete.

Thank you all for your very kind words and thoughts, it helps a lot. @GilesBathgate, diet plays no real part as a cause of appendicitis itself but you may be interested to know, the surgeon was amazed I still had my appendix, she said I must have been having terrible trouble with it over the past few years. There was a tremendous amount of scarring and the appendix was stuck to the bowel wall. I've never had a flicker of anything; in fact, apart from the physical injury, I've been in robust health. She was a bit flummoxed. I told her about my dietary choice. Later that day, she came back, wanting to know more. Her comment was, from the results of my bloods, given the amount of infection in my intestines, I was in remarkably good shape. I had low potassium levels but she said that was more than likely caused by the amount of fluids they'd pumped through me. Her conclusion was that I was as strong as an ox and my body had been absorbing and dealing with the infections. It was probably due to having a major operation, coupled with the strong medication which had lowered my defences and allowed it to get a hold. And to keep doing what I was doing. She went on to say that there was a lot of discussion amongst doctors at the moment about how different dietary choices were playing a role in disease and a few of her colleagues were going down the low carb, higher fat lifestyle. My Inner Cavewoman is shaking her head at me. She's not surprised by the appendix episode. If she hadn't been strong and healthy and able to absorb infections, the first appendicitis flare up would have likely killed her at a young age - most people get it in their teens or early twenties. So I've been given the thumbs up from IC for getting this far!
