Winter is here! I got in a nice long walk through the snow with family. Not everyone braved the cold, but the twins and my youngest girl and oldest boy had a wonderful wander with me. The snowflakes were massive and the workout was good!

Our Anna's hummingbirds are keeping warm and are being entertaining. I am so grateful for the little heater I could get for the feeder. How wonderful to sleep a little more rather than getting up before dawn to put out a feeder that would otherwise freeze overnight. My daughter took this picture of the tiny thing having a very early breakfast! Mr Cat is vastly appreciative of his jay "friends" coming to visit!

Thank you all so much for your sweet comments! I am very blessed to have loving "kids" even though they are all young adults now. This is an Anna's hummingbird. They do not migrate away from here during the winter, since our temperatures are pretty mild usually. They eat a lot of little bugs, so they are not dependent on flowers, which are in short supply this time of year. However, when we have the occasional cold snap, frozen necter in hummingbird feeders is pretty disappointing for them. So, helping them out with a warm meal is kind of cool!

Is that a humming bird in the snow? If it is, it definitely missed migration south.

melissaconner36! Actually, this Anna's hummingbird is right at home! 😃 Unlike most hummingbirds they do not migrate but stay in their territory, which they defend fiercely year round!
