My advice is that if you're going to cheat, only cheat a little. I'm not sure how the G.I. diet works, but for Atkins, I always say to myself: no pure carbs. Carbs in sauces, integrated into dishes, etc. are fine, but don't load up on the mashed potatoes or rolls. Do the same for your diet. Don't flat-out cheat with unacceptable foods, but if there is a food that is part G.I. friendly but has an ingredient or two in it that isn't on your diet, that's alright. We're going to cheat anyway, so why not cheat smart?
