For those taking NSAIDS and getting rebound headaches, word from my headache specialist, the only OTC or pain killer known to NOT give rebound headaches with constant use is Naproxen Sodium (Aleve). Also check into taking 400mg of B2 /day 400 mg of magnesium citrate/day and 600 mg of Co Q10/day. For cluster headaches, which I get, look at taking melatonin at night and massively regimenting your sleep schedule and see about a prescription for oxygen.

Are you doing LC? If so... you are probably losing alot of magnesium and potassium through the extra urinating and sweating. Drinking water keeps hydrated, but doesn't protect the loose of electrolytes. Try drinking a couple of teaspoons of salt water in the morning, especially if you're going to be sweating. A good way to test if that's the problem is to enjest it while having the headacge, and see if it's gone within 20 minutes. Good luck!

I'm not sure if you have transitioned to low carb. When I went keto I had to add Himalayan sea salt and magnesium. I was having nausea inducing headaches which went away once I ate the salt and took magnesium.

UPDATE: first off thank you all for the amazing advice! Shortly after drinking some coffee my headache went away. I cooked dinner, ate some and was phoned to be made aware of a dear friends mother in ICU after suffering a stroke. We immediately got up from dinner to rush to the hospital. While there I was feeling a little off, BAM!! I got hit with the worst vertigo I have ever had. I suffer from Ménière's disease. It's a vestibular disorder which causes vertigo, sweats, nausea, tinnitus, deafness (in affected ear) and a whole slew of other fun stuff. I have been in remission (no crisis) for a little over 4 years now. My doctors and I had assumed I reached a "burnout" which means rock bottom with the deafness (I wear a hearing aid) but no symptoms of vertigo. Boy, were we wrong!! It was awful! I called my specialist who after so many years has become a friend, and he wants to check me out for fear of it becoming bi-lateral (starting to affect my good ear) Anyhow, I explained the severe headaches and he told me that very possibly they are vestibular headaches as a warning of what was to come. So off to the Doc for more testing, love to you all! Thanks a bunch!

have you tried alternating ibuprophen and acetaminophen every 2 hrs? a nurse gave me that advice when the local charity clinic would not Rx pain killers. oh also, if your face is tender take a decongestant.

Jenibean I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope the good ear is going to be okay.💐

sounds like a possible electrolyte issue. on headache days i have 2 shots of pedialyte to start then a shot every hour till it goes away. usually 1 hour gone.

either cutback on the water or get a concentrated electrolyte solution to add into your water (highly recommed option B) by drinking so much water you're flushing out electrolytes your brain needs, that headache is a warning sign, take heed!

Headache is back tonight! I've taken my meds and hoping it goes away, hate the vertigo more than the headaches!!☹️

Oh gosh- my heart goes out to you. ❤️ I hope it gets better soon.

Sam lander has a good point. You know, they sell flavorless electrolyte water at Whole Foods, no carbs or chemicals like Gatorade. Its not expensive.

Headaches are vestibular in origin, nothing I can do but put up with it! Thanks FS fam!

Jenibeann, even with the headaches being vestibular, sam lander has a very good point about adding back in the electrolytes. Many meds we take nowadays block magnesium and other necessary minerals in our systems from doing what needs to be done. Most of the heart and bp meds actually make the situation worse and will leech selenium and magnesium. Cholesterol meds add floride and bind magnesium. And magnesium is needed by virtually every process in your body. So I don't want to piss you off, I'm just concerned that in looking at a know disease you may be overlooking a common dietary culprit. Take care. 🙋🏻

Smprowett, you would never piss me off by trying to help!!! Have you any idea how much magnesium is suffice? My doc suggested against electrolyte type drinks because the sodium aggravates my disease even further. I do have a magnesium supplement here at home. I actually bought it for my husband who suffers from sleep apnea. We read magnesium may help him with that. Just thinking maybe I should take also!

Your Dr can run a test called the RBC, serum blood tests are worthless as only 1% of the body's magnesium circulates in the bloodstream. Magnesium oxide is only 4% absorbed, so any other form is better absorbed and gives less waste in the intestines. There is a book called, "The Magnesium Miracle," by Dr. Carolyn Dean. Not a well written style but filled with some strung together facts about magnesium deficiency. People can be low by as much as 600-1,000 mg/ day based on size and activity level. I've just started experimenting with supplementing in the last few months heavily and am getting feeling back in "neuropathy" dead feet and my face and areas that never returned after surgeries. It's very weird to realise it was a huge deficiency in my diet which everyone assured me was pretty good! 🤦🏻‍♀️
