The rule of running is if its the head up (like a cold), its okay to run (if you feel like it). If it's from the neck down, use caution. Running when your body is fighting broncitis is probably not the smart thing to do. Rest and take your antibiotics. If you start feeling good in a few days, you might do a light run. If you have been training for the past couple of months, taking a week off shouldn't effect your running too much. You have to gauge how you feel. I never heard that about weakening your heart. But you shouldn't do heavy training with broncitis. You just have to rest, take your meds and see how you feel in a few days. No race is worth your health.
