Someone explain to me why fasting is so popular and helpful? I was always under the impression that it’s bad for metabolism and could likely lead to bingeing. Curious on hearing other points of view.

A lot of fat secret members are in the keto diet intermittent fasting is a way of keeping their calories to a certain part of the day. Opposite of me, I choose to eat all day but small amounts. They may only eat between 11-5 or 11-7 or eat only broth or something for a day. Personally it’s not for me but someone may have a better answer for you. I need food so I don’t get hangry. You can research the keto diet and maybe it will help. It’s also very low carb high fat and protein.

I, too, was sure that I would die on a fast, since I am diabetic. Dr. Jason Fung has a bit literature on the subject. After I was sure that I was keto adapted, I tried the 18 hour fast. After several weeks of the 18 hour fast, (eating within a six hour window daily), I found myself in a situation in which no low-carb food was available, so I fasted 36 hours without feeling too deprived. My diabetes was totally under control, because there were no glucose spikes. Spikes lead to crashes. You can find more info by reading one of Dr. Fung's books or by going to dietdoctor.com

I personally believe that fasting is an excersize in self control. Fasting leads to putting your body into a catabolic state and the idea that you keep muscle (more muscle, more calorie burn) in an anabolic state. Your body is a furnace and the fire needs to be stoked

Needless to say, I don't support fasting... especially if you are diabetic, hyper/hypoglycemic as it can lead to dulling your ability to feel the symptoms. That's how people get to dangerous insulin/sugar levels and feel fine...just an opinion though

Everybody is different. Look up the information and make your own judgement. I'm not on keto but there's times I so fast. Not all day but I know my body. You'll do what's right for you. A lot of good info that Dr. Fung gives. Look it up and you will do what is right for you.

Neither Keto nor fasting would be for me. My biggest strategy is to avoid hunger in order to avoid poor choices and keep my metabolism active. I’m under 5 ft tall so the amount of calories I can have and still lose weight is very limited. I have to be meticulous with how I “spend” them. I was curious, though, I’ve noticed it’s recent popularity and was confused because it’s completely opposite of what makes sense to me personally. Especially the high fat aspect. Keto sounds very unhealthy, unbalanced, and like it would be very difficult to maintain long term since we literally need carbs to stay alive.

I think the high fat aspect of it is 1. alot of proteins and nutrients can't be absorbed without fat. (my big fear with the keto diet is going into ketosis and then renal failure) 2. it teaches your body to rely on fat for fuel instead of carbs (my fear with that is unused fat and proteins go to ... wait for it ... fat)

Needless to say I like your plan. note: I'm not judging anyone for fasting and being on the keto diet...you do you and be happy😄

Personally lm not going to starve myself to lose weight and then when you do feed yourself you'll eat very little in fear of gaining any of it back, no no no...I'll eat my food and be sensible about it and exercise and I'll lose weight that way.So to each his or her own.

I find it confuses the body (on Keto, and for ME anyway). I have more energy (and WANT to be energetic) the recovery day after. I guess the key (for me) is to keep the body guessing when it's getting it's next meal.
